NPP Deputy General Secretary: “We were not invited to the National Economic Dialogue”

National Economic Dialogue

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has stated that the party was not invited to participate in the National Economic Dialogue (NED), held on March 3 and 4, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, he clarified that the invitation came from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not from the presidency, making it an event that could not be considered a national initiative.

“The presidency is not an extension of the NDC political party,” he asserted, insisting that a truly national dialogue should have ensured broader political inclusion.

His comments come amid concerns over the absence of the NPP and the minority caucus in parliament at the dialogue, with critics arguing that politics should not overshadow national efforts to address Ghana’s economic challenges.

The two-day forum, spearheaded by President John Dramani Mahama, was designed to foster inclusive discussions on macroeconomic stability, economic transformation, governance, and private sector growth.

The event, themed “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together,” brought together key stakeholders, including the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations, to propose solutions for revitalizing the economy.
