24-hour economy policy to be presented to Parliament – Finance Minister

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that the government will soon present its proposed 24-hour economy policy to Parliament.

Speaking on Tuesday, March 11, during the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement, Dr. Forson emphasized that the policy is a key initiative of the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government aimed at boosting economic productivity by encouraging businesses to operate around the clock.

“The Mahama-led NDC government is committed to the pursuit of the 24-hour economy policy,” he stated, highlighting its potential to create jobs and drive sustainable economic growth.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader economic agenda to enhance opportunities and promote inclusivity in employment.

The 24-hour economy concept has been a major topic in recent political discussions, with proponents arguing that it will maximize infrastructure use, increase productivity across key sectors, and stimulate economic expansion.

Dr. Forson assured Parliament that measures are being put in place to ensure a smooth rollout, including incentives for businesses willing to extend operations beyond traditional working hours.

As part of the government’s economic transformation strategy, he noted that the policy would serve as a catalyst for industrial growth and investment.

He urged Parliament to support the initiative once it is formally presented, stressing that its success would depend on collaboration between the public and private sectors.

The government is expected to outline a comprehensive framework detailing the policy’s implementation before submitting it to Parliament for further deliberation.
