Minority scolds Majority MPs over rampant absenteeism

The Minority Members of Parliament

The Minority Members of Parliament have criticised the Majority caucus over their frequent absenteeism from the chamber.
Addressing the press on Friday, March 7, 2025, the Minority, led by the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Professor Kingsley Nyarko, expressed concern over the attitude of the NDC MPs, emphasising how they fail to gather their numbers in the chamber despite being in the Majority.
Speaking on the low turnout of their colleagues from the NDC side and their inability to form a quorum for the conduction of government business, Kingsley Nyarko highlighted how these occurrences could negatively impact the country.
“We need one-third of the House to commence business. We come to the House to work.... The NDC claims to be the super majority, but they struggle to assemble their members to come to the House to do business,” he stated.
The MP described how a similar scenario happened on Friday, March 7, with a recorded low turnout of MPs from the Majority side, describing it as embarrassing.
“Today, what we've seen is just embarrassing. We are here to do business, but they couldn't mass up their numbers to do business. And for us, this is worrying. How long can we continue on this tangent?” he continued.
Nyarko called on Ghanaians to address the worrying trend and the precedent being set by their colleagues in the Majority.
He concluded by stating that taking action would ensure that parliamentary business is conducted with the seriousness required to advance the country.
“We want Ghanaians to know and to tell our friends from the NDC to take Ghanaians seriously; to take the business of the House serious, because Ghanaians expect a lot from us. They want us to meet their needs and their aspirations. When this behavior continues unchecked, it is not going to help us to advance this country,” he added.
