Man sentenced to prison for stealing laptop computer at Ministry of Labour

Foster Nyarko

An unemployed man has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing a laptop from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment.

Foster Nyarko, 36, had gone to the Ministry in search of a cleaning job when he committed the crime.

He pleaded guilty before an Accra Circuit Court to charges of unlawful entry and theft of an HP laptop valued at GH₵24,745.

The court, presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, sentenced him to one year for unlawful entry and two years for theft, with both sentences running concurrently.

This is not Nyarko’s first offense—earlier this year, he was jailed for stealing a mobile phone at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice while job hunting.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, a lawyer at the Ministry, left his office on December 4, 2024. Nyarko, who had been directed to the Human Resource Director for job inquiries, instead went to the second floor and entered the complainant’s office, where he stole the laptop.

He concealed the device in his backpack and left the premises. Investigations led to his arrest, and he admitted to selling the stolen laptop to an unknown buyer in Takoradi.
